Scorsese Goes For Younger Audiences, New Technology With Cabret

If the concept of Martin Scorsese making a 3D kids' movie seems unusual, wait until you see the cast list for his Hugo Cabret.

Sony announced yesterday that the director has started shooting his long-coming adaptation of Brian Selznick's award-winning The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a book described by Selznick as "not exactly a novel, not quite a picture book, not really a graphic novel, or a flip book or a movie, but a combination of all these things." Because it's Scorcese, the movie version stars Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kick-Ass' Chloe Moretz, Jude Law, Ray Winstone and Christopher Lee, amongst many others, and will be the director's first 3D project, from a screenplay by The Aviator's John Logan. Should we start preparing the Best Picture Oscar now, do you think...?

Hugo Cabret is set for release in December 2011.
