Warner Bros. is making a new animated Scooby-Doo film with a star-studded cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming movie will star Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman, Will Forte as Shaggy, Gina Rodriguez as Velma and longtime voice actor Frank Welker as Scooby. There was no casting information given for Fred of Daphne. The movie will be directed by Tony Cervone. The article insinuates that the movie will target a wide release.
That outlet reports the movie's synopsis says, "The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans...and this time, we are told, the threat is real."
The synopsis seems to indicate that even more characters from the Hanna-Barbera universe will be announced in the future, and that the project will have to find someone to voice Dick Dastardly, if it hasn't already.
Created in 1969, the Scooby-Doo franchise is one of the most popular animated franchises in the world, having spawned video games, television series, toys, films and more. This film will be the first to hit theaters since 2004's live-action Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. However, there have been several direct-to-video releases since then.
The Scooby-Doo film is slated for release May 2020.
