With a live-action reboot already in development, Warner Bros. has staked out a 2018 release date for a "Scooby-Doo" animated feature.

Deadline reports Tony Cervone, whose credits include "Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" and "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated," will direct from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman ("Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief," "Short Circuit" reboot). "American Hustle's" Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce.

The studio actually started the ball rolling two years ago, but there had been no public movement on the project before now.

The film is of course based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!," which inspired decades' worth of animated spinoffs and movies, and a live-action franchise. Warner Bros. has recently shown renewed interest in the 46-year-old property, announcing Scooby-Doo LEGO toys and made-for-TV movies, and a new animated series "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo," in addition to the live-action film.

The "Scooby-Doo" animated movie is set for release Sept. 21, 2018.
