Ahead of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's" arrival in theaters next March, Scholastic will help introduce DC's three headlining heroes to a new audience through a line of illustrated biographies titled "Backstories." Announced in Publisher's Weekly December 2015 Licensing Hotline, the "Backstories" line is described as a "middle-grade series of 120-page biographies" that will explore the histories of heroes and villains.

"It came about when we were having a brainstorming meeting," Scholastic VP and publisher Debra Dorfman told Publisher's Weekly. "We thought, we should do a biography series of fictional characters. How fun would that be?" The first line includes "Batman: Gotham City's Guardian" by Matthew Manning, "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" by Daniel Wallace and "Wonder Woman: Amazon Warrior" by an unnamed author.

The books will arrive in early 2016, ahead of "Batman v Superman's" release, although the specific release date remains unclear. Amazon listings for the Batman and Superman books have their release scheduled for January 26, while Previews says they'll arrive on February 24. The Publisher's Weekly piece states they'll arrive in March.

The article also states that Harley Quinn and Supergirl will also get "Backstories" entries, and Amazon lists "Harley Quinn: Wild Card" as arriving on May 31.
