A new poster for Guillermo Del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was revealed today, and it visualizes one of the more iconic stories from the books.
Readers of a certain age might remember their middle school library being under constant demand for requests to check out Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and its sequels, and in one of those books -- Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones -- there was a story by the title of "The Red Spot," and that appears to be what is being adapted in the new movie poster
The movie is based on the three-book series by author Alvin Schwartz, with illustrations by Stephen Gammell. The books were released in 1981, 1984 and 1991 respectively, and for many kids growing up in the 1980s and '90s, they were a gateway to things like Stephen King and Clive Barker.
Produced by horror icon Guillermo del Toro and directed by Trollhunter's André Øvredal, the film is set to hit theaters later this year, with a scheduled release date of August 9. The cast features Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Javier Botet and Lorraine Toussaint.
