Award-winning actor Scarlett Johansson is returning to TV after Prime Video orders her upcoming show, Just Cause.

According to a Deadline report, Amazon Studios made a straight-to-series order for the limited series, collaborating with Johansson's production company, These Pictures, and Warner Bros. TV. Just Cause is a television adaptation of the 1992 novel by John Katzenbach and the 1995 film starring Sean Connery (Paul Armstrong), Blair Underwood (Bobby Earl Ferguson) and Lawrence Fishburne (Sheriff Tanny Brown). The film was one of Johansson's first big-screen roles, playing Katie Armstrong, Paul Armstrong's daughter, while she was still a child.

For the TV version of Just Cause, in which Johansson serves as an executive producer, the actor plays the lead character, Madison "Madi" Cowart. Madi represents a switch up from the book which centers around its male protagonist and Miami-based news editor, Matt Cowart. She is sent to cover an inmate's final days while on death row.

Johansson is a co-EP on Just Cause alongside its screenwriter, Christy Hall, who co-created and wrote the 2020 comedy series I Am Not Okay With This. Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn of These Pictures also have executive production credits while the Head of Television from the actor's production company, Zara Duffy, will oversee the upcoming project.

Scarlett Johansson Has Had an Action-Packed Career

A Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee, Johansson is known for her roles as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Her final MCU movie was the 2021 film, Black Widow, in which she was the lead. The movie, while successful, garnered controversy after Johansson filed a lawsuit against former Disney boss Bob Chapek, alleging he sacrificed the movie's box office potential to boost Disney+. The matter was settled out of court in September 2021 for an undisclosed amount.

Chris Evans was due to reunite with Johansson in Project Artemis but left this past July due to scheduling conflicts.

No date has been given for when filming begins or who else will feature on Just Cause. Before the series hits Prime Video, viewers can watch the original film via the streaming service.
