The Mutant ranks are filled to the brim with immense, incredible, and outright wacky power sets. With her long checkered history and a decade long redemption arc, Scarlet Witch has simultaneously created huge problems and saved the day countless times. Though it was revealed that Wanda gained her abilities thanks to the experiments performed on her by The High Evolutionary, this dubbed 'Great Pretender' is always and X-Woman in the minds of her fans.

An equally as problematic character is none other than X-Men founding member and literal fiery redhead Jean Grey. Although innately powerful without her celestial burden, Jean Grey is dramatically changed and dramatically more powerful when possessed with the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force. But if they came face to face, who would triumph?

10 Scarlet Witch: A Talent For Magic

Marvel Comics Scarlet Witch

Though her powers have changed and adapted throughout the years, Wanda's 'Hex bolts' are now firmly planted in the realm of Chaos magic. Having a natural affinity to the mystic arts, Scarlet Witch has done everything from performing resurrection spells in Empyr to opening rifts of pure chaos to battle Thor in Axis.

She is also now teaching at Doctor Strange's 'Strange Academy,' which proves her mastery of magic is far more complicated than simple tricks. Though her spells alone would not be powerful enough to fight the Phoenix force, if applied correctly, it could definitely turn the tide of battle.

9 Phoenix: Energy Absorption

Jean Grey as Dark Phoenix

There aren't many things that the Phoenix can't do. Among its wheelhouse is the handy ability to absorb energy and use it as fuel for its own power. In the Dark Phoenix Saga, a possessed Jean Grey refuelled herself from a sun, which inevitably led to the genocide of a nearby planet,

Jean Grey has also been shown to absorb and/or redirect the optic blast produced from X-Men leader and long time partner, Cyclops. Though it is essential to mention that the Phoenix does not just stop with energy blasts and suns. Since its real power still remains unknown, it has been speculated that a host could absorb the energies of entire galaxies.

8 Scarlet Witch: Reality Warping

No more mutants - Wanda Maximoff Marvel Comics

Wanda's reality-warping ability is unparalleled. It needs no reminder that she single-handedly wiped out the Mutant population with three tiny words and the willpower to do so. She has done other impossible things, such as resurrecting Wonder Man from another plane of existence.

Scarlet Witch's reality-warping capabilities are not often used in fights, because quite frankly, they would be overkill in dealing with everyday villains. But should she have to face the Phoenix, then she might have to employ the ability just so she stands a chance. Even then, would she even be able to wipe the cosmic entity from existence? Or merely delay the inevitable?

7 Phoenix: Cosmic Entity

As an ancient cosmic being, the Phoenix Force wields power than is unrivalled, besides a few selected characters like The Living Tribunal, and The Beyonder. When choosing a host the Force prefers someone with powerful Psionic abilities, as these individuals are able to keep it contained.

As the Nexus for all Psionic energy, the Phoenix force is capable of cosmic level telepathy and telekinesis. This astonishing level of power is capable of devastating feats, something that will surely be used during its face-off with the chaos wielding with. For instance, though Wanda can teleport and fly, The Phoenix Force can collapse in on itself like a Black Hole and appear anywhere in known Galaxy.

6 Scarlet Witch: Strength In Numbers

Avengers Vs X-Men

Scarlet Witch has countless enemies, which at the moment all live on the Mutant island of Krakoa, and refer to her as the "Great Pretender.' Although she may think of herself as alone if the need arose, teams would rise up to defend and aid her.

She has been a member of the Avengers since 1965, and as a result has formed long-lasting friendships with many of the members, at least those she hasn't killed. The Avengers have battled the Phoenix Force before, and if it was not for Wanda's help, they would all have been reduced to ashes. Should they need to repay the favor, The Phoenix force has got one hell of a fight on its hands...well claws?

5 Phoenix: Nothing To Lose

Phoenix Force Marvel Comics

Though it may not have a plethora of heroes to back it up, The Phoenix Force more than makes up for the lack of friends. Though the emotion of the host has broken through a few times, the Phoenix Force itself has no earthly anchors.

It does not care for the people it hurts, nor does it feel remorse for obliterating cities. Without a moral centre, The phoenix Force will do anything it can to come out on top, crossing lines that Wanda never would (or would again).

4 Scarlet Witch: Phoenix Negation

In Avengers Vs X-Men there are numerous times that Scarlet Witch takes on, and successfully beats, a member of the Phoenix Five. Her powers give the Avengers the much-needed boost they need, as a Vibranium shield won't quite cut it against all-powerful firebirds. She takes down both Namor and Magik herself and also creates illusions of herself all over the world to disorientate her enemies. In the final showdown, Hope Summers mimics Wanda's powers to defeat Cyclops and finally declare "No more mutants."

Scarlet Witch is the only non-celestial being that could stand a chance against the Phoenix, and if history is any indicator, she could have a pretty good chance of defeating it.

3 Phoenix: Rebirth

Though Wanda's powers may be able to negate the power of the Phoenix, the cosmic firebird is not so simply destroyed. It can move between hosts or even split itself to be combat threats. When the phoenix leaves a host, it releases a fragment of its power, a literal flame to be reborn from incase of destruction.

Its most famous host Jean Grey was actually brought back to life multiple times, so how do you destroy something that can't actually be killed?

2 Scarlet Witch- Training

Wanda has been trained by some of the best fighters and tacticians the world has to offer. She has fought hand to hand with the likes of Captain America and Hawkeye and has often operated in leadership roles within The Avengers.

Though this would not directly win her fight with the Phoenix, the knowledge of prior battles and tactics will definitely aid in planning her route of attack. Where the Phoenix may act out of instinct, Wanda has had years of on the job training to keep her alive.

1 Phoenix- Pyrokinesis

The Phoenix Force's use of its ethereal flames goes beyond earthly fire, even beyond the heat of our own sun. Its fire can destroy entire planets, burn supernovas, and even breathe new life into barren worlds. This insane degree of power could be hard to negate for anyone.

Wanda has dealt with Phoenix fire before, but even then, found it hard to control and manage. For an agent of chaos, the flames were too unruly for her.
