One of the longest-running relationships among the Avengers has been between an android (or synthezoid) and a witch. Vision and Scarlet Witch began dating in the early years of the Avengers, and fans have watched their relationship as it grew, hurt one another, and eventually ended.

They're easily one of the best known on-again, off-again couples in comics, and with WandaVision on the horizon, some fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might want to brush up on their knowledge of the couple's relationship before plunging into the television series. It includes children, reality warping, and Scarlet Witch killing her husband at least twice.

10 Their First House Was Burned Down

In comics, sometimes teams can simply grow too large. When this happens, writers try to shrink them down by enforcing a team size limit. Captain America decided to shrink the Avengers down to six members during one such limit, leaving Scarlet Witch and Vision to quit the team.

Still wanting to enjoy wedded bliss, the two of them found a house in Leonia, New Jersey where they intended to live a regular life. However, their house was eventually burned down because the neighbors had a problem with Vision.

9 They Had Two Kids

During one of the two mini-series these characters had in the 1980s, one of the biggest topics of discussion was the idea of the two of them having children. Eventually, Wanda wound up becoming pregnant with the Vision’s children through means neither of them would be aware of. Their children would come to be known as Billy and Tommy, but there was just one problem— their actual souls were part of Mephisto, and they were eventually re-captured.

8 Vision Lost His Arm Saving Her

In the very first mini-series starring the Vision and Scarlet Witch, the pair met up with the Whizzer. For a time, Wanda believed the Whizzer was her father, and so she agreed to help him recover his real son, Nuklon.

But it turned out the doctor watching over Whizzer’s son was actually a super-villain, and he’d absorbed much of Nuklon’s energy to take out Whizzer. During the fight where Vision and Scarlet Witch defended both of them, Isbisa’s attacks took the Vision’s arm, something that lasted until Vision met with the Inhumans on the moon.

7 Attacked By Zombies Right After Getting Their Second House

This pair of heroes couldn't even go a day without winding up dealing with more superhero foolishness. After just rescuing her husband from questioning by the government, Scarlet Witch and Vision went to buy another house in Leonia.

Literally moments after buying the house the two of them were attacked by zombies, who wound up being under the control of Nekra, a woman who'd fallen in league with Avengers villain the Grim Reaper. This was largely the crux of the action behind the second The Vision and the Scarlet Witch mini-series.

6 Scarlet Witch Nearly Killed Him

During Giant Size Avengers #4, Scarlet Witch gets pulled into the Dark Dimension by Dormammu not long after she finishes her training as a sorceress. Vision goes after her to rescue her, but while he’s able to fight Dormammu, he’s less able to fight Scarlet Witch while she’s under Dormammu’s control.

Though he can hold on, Scarlet Witch attaches the gem that controls his powers and nearly takes Vision out for good, only awakening once she understands the damage she’s doing to him.

5 Got Married At The Same Time As Mantis And Swordsman

After Scarlet Witch and Vision manage to defeat Dormammu, they return back to their dimension. While there, Vision finally musters the strength to propose, explaining that he loved how she could look beyond his shell to see the man underneath. The two of them shared a wedding at the same time as Mantis and the Swordsman, going on to be married teammates on the Avengers.

4 Their Kids Became Avengers

Though Wanda’s children were initially believed dead, it was later revealed that the children Wanda couldn’t be completely absorbed by Mephisto. Instead, some of that magic would reincarnate into a pair of children. Another pair of twins, that would also become known as Billy and Tommy, would both develop their own powers. One of them would become a magician known as Wiccan, while the other would gain super-speed and become Speed.

3 Wanda Killed Vision

Wanda’s memory of her lost children was initially taken from her by Agatha Harkness. Though it was believed that Wanda wouldn’t be able to handle it all at once, this came back to ruin the Avengers later when the Wasp reminded her of the two children that had been erased.

Wanda would snap and use her powers to completely destroy the Avengers, and Vision was one of the Avengers who wouldn’t survive the attack going forward.

2 Quicksilver Didn't Approve Of Their Relationship

Initially, Quicksilver was incensed at the idea of his sister getting married to an android. He refused to take their marriage seriously for some time. But eventually, after seeing how much she really loved the Vision, he put aside his bigotry, understanding it for what it was. Pietro gladly welcomed Vision into his family, allowing the two of them to become brothers as well as fellow Avengers.

1 Their Divorced Happened Because Vision Became An Android

Scarlet Witch Vision Marriage

During the West Coast Avengers story, “Vision Quest”, all the governments of the world became threatened by Vision joining the Avengers. This happened not long after the Vision had recently tried to unite all the world’s computers and take over the world because of some faulty programming.

Concerned at him being a potential threat, they all worked together to have Vision’s mind erased and his body completely destroyed. Though he was restored physically, his personality was gone and Simon Williams (who his personality was based off) refused to help restore it again. This led to Vision becoming a true, emotionless android for a time, and the two eventually agreed to have their relationship annulled.
