The following contains major spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, now in theaters.

In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch once again proved to be a divisive figure. Still enshrouded with grief after losing her family in WandaVision, Wanda tried to find a world to be with her boys, but it resulted in her taking many innocent lives with the Darkhold. However, while the film ended on a tragic note for the fallen Avenger, she could still return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in grand fashion.

What Happened to Wanda in Doctor Strange 2?

Wanda was obsessed with using her Scarlet Witch talents and the Darkhold, possessing demons across the multiverse to kidnap America Chavez. She wanted to harness America's portals to find versions of her kids that needed her, but America eventually showed her Earth-838, where the kids thought she was a murdering monster. And with a heavy heart, Wanda returned home, destroyed all the Darkholds and brought Mount Wundagore down on her as punishment for the chaos she caused.

Wanda May Still Be an MCU Hero

Earlier in the film, when Professor Xavier of the Illuminati on Earth-838 entered her mind, he saw the heroic Wanda trapped in a mental construct of Sokovian rubble. He couldn't save her, but there's a chance that Wanda survived. Her body's magical instincts could have protected its frame, allowing Wanda to now go into hiding, repentant and wanting to remain off-grid. That can give the second Vision a purpose: to find and offer a second chance. It may even be a new Avengers team that wants to rehabilitate both, helping them find the light inside again.

Mentally ready for the outside world again, Wanda can atone the right way. With Wundagore confirming dark magical spots exist all across the multiverse, villains such as Nightmare, Doctor Doom, Mephisto, evil Clea or Dormammu's cult can rise up. Thus, with America training with Wong and Kamar-Taj rebuilding after Scarlet Witch's attack, Wanda can return to bolster their ranks and find the ultimate redemption.

Wanda Can Help Lead the X-Men

With mutants ready to be introduced on Earth-616, Wanda could also join the X-Men. She can become a teacher, partnering with this world's Professor X, wanting to protect the children of the atom from any threats. In some ways, she'd even become the mother she couldn't be to Billy and Tommy, working with mystical students like Magik to hone their craft.

And seeing as Wanda's such a big face already in the MCU, she could take on more responsibility and even help lead the mutants. She's got vast experience and would also be an intimidating figure, reminding the outside world not to encroach on her new family. That scenario could even tie into her and Pietro's constantly-tweaked comic origins. Magneto, posing as her true father, could want to use her as a pawn down the line, just as he has in the comics time and time again.

Scarlet Witch Could Still Return as Villain

Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2

Wanda's body never appears at the end of Multiverse of Madness, so she may still be out there. Her essence can possess people, adding to the horror dynamic Sam Raimi brought with his direction, or her spirit could be so strong that it can't disappear from Wanda's body. In that sense, Scarlet Witch can remain whole and immortal, seeking vengeance or possible allies. Agatha Harkness is one example because she may have escaped her imprisonment after WandaVision with the Darkhold gone. She could always work Wanda's mind and set her off on a path of destruction again.

Clearly, Wanda is still damaged by her home getting destroyed, so there's a strong chance she'll embrace her destiny as a destroyer meant to wipe out evil. And with that dark mindset, villains like Doom and such can capitalize. They can even deploy Ammit and Arthur Harrow's philosophy from Moon Knight, fooling Wanda into thinking as an instrument of judgment, enacting a purge might be the best way to cure the planet. That would once again give the Avengers and Kamar-Taj a formidable opponent and provide the incoming X-Men a potential enemy.
