Scarlet Witch has apparently usurped Doctor Doom's place in artwork for Marvel's upcoming Darkhold collection.

Distributor Hachette's solicitation for Darkhold prominently features art by Greg Smallwood depicting Scarlet Witch reading the titular Darkhold book. The image strongly resembles that used in artwork for the now cancelled Darkhold Alpha #1, with Scarlet Witch replacing Doctor Doom.

The upcoming Darkhold collection will include Darkhold Alpha, The Darkhold: TBD A 1-E and Darkhold Omega. The included issues were originally intended to be a series of one-shots, but the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the resulting Diamond distribution lockdown forced release plans to change.

The Darkhold book, also known as the Book of Sins, was created by the elder god Chthon, who was heavily involved in Scarlet Witch's origins. The summary reads: "DARKHOLD sees Doctor Doom unearth the ancient Darkhold, a text written by the elder god Chthon, and unintentionally opening a passageway for Chthon to return to our dimensions. To stop him, the Scarlet Witch recruits five heroes - Iron Man, Wasp (Janet), Black Bolt, Spider-Man (Peter), and Blade. To enter Chthon's dimension and fight him, the heroes must read from the Darkhold, which drives them insane."

Darkhold is written by Steve Orlando with illustrations by Cian Tormey. It is now scheduled to be released on December 22 to coincide with the debut of the TV show WandaVision on Disney+.
