Dexter Darden, who co-stars in the Peacock reboot of Saved by the Bell, says he wants in on the Static Shock movie to be produced by Black Panther co-star Michael B. Jordan.

Darden told ComicBook.com Wednesday, "I'm a massive comic book fan. I'm a massive, massive comic book fan. Like I have a Spider-Man pillow, my recording studio and my room are dedicated to Marvel. And so, any opportunity to be a part of any franchise would be fantastic." He continued, "But I know there's a rumor of Static Shock coming back around and Michael B. Jordan doing some producing. So if there is a way for me to get involved in that, if I have an opportunity to be a part of such an amazing trailblazing project like that, I wouldn't mind being a part of it."

On Saved by the Bell, Darden plays Devante Young, one of the new students transferred to Bayside High School in the wake of school closings brought on by Gov. Zack Morris's inept budget cuts.

Jordan reportedly signed on as producer for the Static Shock project through his production company Outlier Society, along with director and producer Reginald Hudlin. Hudlin's portfolio includes executive producing The Boondocks, producing Marshall and Django Unchained, and a run writing the Black Panther comic book for Marvel.

Static Shock features teen superhero Virgil Hawkins, one of the flagship characters of the DC Comics imprint Milestone. The comic book Static ran from 1993 to 1997, and was adapted into the animated series Static Shock for the Kids' WB programming block, running for 52 episodes from 2000 to 2004. Static and the other Milestone characters were folded into the DC Universe. The Milestone line will be revived in February 2021.

The Static Shock film is in development and does not have a release date.
