In just a matter of days, Disney will evidently regain the screen rights to the Marvel Comics character Daredevil from Netflix. With that in mind, Vincent D'Onofrio -- who starred in the Netflix series Marvel's Daredevil as main antagonist Wilson Fisk/Kingpin -- is urging fans to sign the #SaveDaredevil petition, which asks that the House of Mouse revive Daredevil for a fourth season once it is legally able do so, be it on Hulu or otherwise.Yesterday, #SaveDaredevil advocate TJ Garvey made a post to Twitter reading, "We have four days until the two-year moratorium is over. Have you signed the petition? We're at 370,369 signatures and counting." Garvey tagged Marvel Studios, Marvel Entertainment, Hulu and Marvel Studios President/Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, saying that "we haven't given up." D'Onofrio quote-tweeted the post, adding, "Sign this people, for Save Daredevil."RELATED: Netflix Is Testing a Top 50 Feature

In late 2013, Disney and Marvel entered a working relationship with Netflix for the streaming giant to put out four adult-oriented dramas based on street-level Marvel heroes set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, which would then cross over for a Defenders limited series. (The Punisher was later added to the deal.)

The first series in Marvel's Netflix lineup, Daredevil premiered its first season on the platform in April of 2015. A second season arrived in March of 2016 and a third in October of 2018. Season 1 starred the likes of D'Onofrio as Kingpin, Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Urich, with later additions including Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/the Punisher, Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter/Bullseye, Jay Ali as Rahul "Ray" Nadeem and Joanne Whalley as Sister Maggie.

Despite all three seasons being met with critical acclaim, Daredevil was officially canceled by Netflix two years ago on Nov. 29, 2018 -- one month after Season 3 premiered. It was the third Marvel-Netflix series to get the axe, with Iron Fist and Luke Cage having been canceled beforehand and Jessica Jones and The Punisher being canceled after the fact. Shortly after Netflix's decision to cancel Daredevil, the petition calling for its renewal was started and the #SaveDaredevil campaign began to pick up traction on social media.

Around this time, it came to light that as part of Disney's contract with Netflix, the streaming platform was able to hold onto the screen rights to the Marvel characters for up to two years after their respective series' cancellations. With Daredevil's two years just about up, there appears to be renewed interest on the part of #SaveDaredevil in getting Disney to bring the show back. The petition specifically names Hulu as a potential new home for the series, with Disney being the service's majority owner, and explains that "fans [have been] willing to wait the two years."

Notably, however, while Marvel has promised that more stories for Daredevil and company await in the future, there has been no word on if the Netflix series' cast members will be involved. What's more, certain cast members have spoken to how difficult getting everyone back together might be. Nevertheless, D'Onofrio in particular has remained persistent, and has been a fairly outspoken member of the #SaveDaredevil campaign. He has also openly expressed his desire to return to the role of Wilson Fisk in one way or another.
