WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Savage Avengers #13, by Gerry Duggan, Patch Zircher, Travis Lanham, and Java Tartaglia, on sale now.

Savage Avengers has left Doctor Strange as desperate as ever to stop the evil mage known as Kulan Gath. No matter how many times he thinks he's driven Kulan back into the shadows, the Conan the Barbarian wizard keeps resurfacing with Strange eventually realizing it's all tied to Shuma-Gorath, the one-eyed Lovecraftian god.

Kulan wants to devour the dark godlike entity but Strange discovers there's one key weapon that could help him turn the tide. And in Savage Avengers #13, Strange assembles a new team of mystical heroes and savage warriors to steal it from the Asgardian dragon Sadurang.

Now, Fin Fang Foom initially held this mantle but he's just a cosmic being that can be caged or killed. That's not simply the case for Sadurang, an Asgardian dragon and sorcerer who was mentored by Dormammu. He first appeared in Gail Simone and Paolo Villanelli's Tony Stark: Iron Man #12, sent by Malekith to take Stark out in exchange for all his riches. In addition to enjoying the spoils of war, Sadurang is greedy and loves feeding his ego and the taste of ultimate power.

While Stark's robot army foiled him, Sadurang holds the first Eye of Agamotto, which makes him a lesser version of the current Sorcerer Supreme. Strange knows Kulan wants this relic but the Avenger confesses that he can end Kulan's reign once and for all if he gets it first. There are only three Eyes he knows of, and owning two will empower Strange to finish the job and save reality from Kulan, who wants to use the Eye to fully absorb Shuma-Gorath's essence and turn the Multiverse into his playground.

And to achieve this theft, Strange meets his crew on the moon to discuss a two-fold strategy. He has to stem the flow of Shuma-Gorath's essence onto Earth, so he has the "Shield" team form to take the cultists out. This consists of Helstrom, Black Widow and Wolverine, but he needs a more mystically powered unit to go on the offense and battle the dragon. Thus, Strange delegates this task to the "Spear" team, led by former Sorcerer Supreme Brother Voodoo and Magik, who helped defeat Kulan many years ago. They'll have brute force backing them up with Elektra, who knows how to adapt and become a supernatural warrior as well after her stints with the Hand. The roster is rounded out by Conan, who's given access to Strange's arsenal where he can wield mystical weapons such as shields, swords, spears and such to better their chances as they hunt the dragon.

Interestingly, Strange makes it clear they don't have to leave Sadurang alive, which is music to Conan's ears. The situation is dire, and this is a last-ditch attempt for Strange to fortify himself and become better positioned to go after Kulan. At this point, he can tell he has the right mix of warriors, ones who don't mind murdering for the greater good, and he clearly sees Spear as the trump card in this mystical war.
