The Looney Tunes -- Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig & Co. -- are some of the most iconic characters around, and yet they haven't had much box-office success. Sure, Space Jam performed well for Warner Bros. in 1996, but the 2003 installment Back in Action was a bomb. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired former Saturday Night Live performer Jenny Slate to pen a new take on the 82-year-old property.
Assumed to be a combination of CGI and live action, Slate's approach to the characters is being kept under wraps. However, it's worth noting the comedian/author, who appeared on SNL from 2009 to 2010, has some experience with animated movies, having lent her voice to The Lorax and co-wrote stop-motion animated shorts based on her Marcel the Shell With Shoes On children's book series.
David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are set to produce along with Harry Potter producer David Heyman and his partner Jeffrey Clifford, so it looks like Warner Bros. is serious about turning some of their most beloved characters into box-0ffice successes again.
