Netflix may have canceled Santa Clarita Diet, but that hasn't stopped creator Victor Fresco from resurrecting the show.

Fresco would love to give fans a fourth season of the hit zombie television series and already has an idea of what it would look like. "We thought it would be fun to do a season with Joel and Sheila in the same boat -- what that would look like. I feel like this would be better for us and better for our fans too," the series creator told LADBible.

Santa Clarita Diet starred Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond, two real estate agents whose life changed when Sheila turned into a flesh-eating zombie. At the end of Season 3, fans were left in awe and suspense as Sheila bit Joel to save his life and bring him into the world of the undead.

If Fresco were to continue the series, he would make the undead transition more of a struggle for Joel than it was for Sheila. "Joel could have a different attitude [to Sheila], we would want him to be a little bit different in how he approaches things," Fresco said. "It will be interesting to see him with that unleashed and what he turns into. So not just who he kills and how he kills but what kind of person he becomes."

The creator also toyed with the idea of switching up the relationship between Sheila, Joel, their daughter Abby and their neighbor Eric. "We had Abby and Eric's relationship which was turning into something interesting at the end of the series. To see Abby now as a hunter of the undead since both her parents are now undead," Fresco said.

Despite Netflix's cancelation of the series, Santa Clarita Diet amassed a huge fan base and Fresco believes the show warrants another season. Continuing the series was "something I think we all would want to do if everyone was available. Emotionally, everyone on the show would love to do some kind of closure," he said.

"There were online petitions. Hundreds of thousands of people signed," Fresco added. "I felt badly because your job as a writer is to get people invested in your show emotionally. We did that and then the rug was pulled from under them. It was a hard thing to process."

Santa Clarita Diet was canceled in 2019 after three seasons. Created by Fresco, the series starred Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo. All three seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix.
