The most relatable of Sanrio's massively popular properties is Aggretsuko, following its eponymous a protagonist as she balances her burgeoning professional life by venting her frustrations as the singer of a local death metal band.

Netflix has released a new trailer for the anime's upcoming third season, set to premiere this month, as Retsuko struggles to find her place in the world while getting pulled into costly investment projects and being saddled with an accounting position after a run-in with her boss. Sanrio originally commissioned a series of animated shorts starring Retsuko, airing in Japan from 2016 to 2018. Following its success, a full anime series was produced, in association with Netflix, premiering through the service worldwide on April 2018 to critical acclaim for its surprising existential themes.

Balancing workplace comedy and energetic death metal with the ennui that comes with young professionals facing their uncertain futures, Aggretsuko is a bubblegum-pop way of dealing with the all too familiar quarter-life crisis that many endure as they make their way in the world and the perfect anime series for 2020.

Written and directed by Rarecho, Sanrio's Aggretsuko returns for its third season on Netflix on Aug. 27.
