Sanrio, the Japanese company behind a slew of colorful, anthropomorphic characters -- most famously Hello Kitty -- has debuted the latest addition to its cartoon family: Aggretsuko.

Like Sanrio's other characters, Aggretsuko comes with her own personality traits and extensive backstory. As it turns out, the red panda lives something of a double life. By day, she's a 25-year-old office worker who bemoans her humdrum lot in life, beset on all sides by frustrating coworkers and a boring, repetitive job. By night, however, she takes out her anger by singing death metal at karaoke bars.

Aggretsuko was introduced to Sanrio fans in an animated short depicting her daily routine, which includes several adult themes, like binge-drinking and an overall feeling of hopelessness while at work. While surprising to some, Sanrio has never shied away from deeply flawed or off-putting characters.

For example, Gudetama, who debuted in 2015, is a chronically lazy egg yolk who suffers from crippling depression. Berry and Cherry, who debuted in 2007, are demonic siblings who inhabit Lloromannic, a world that only exists on the other side of mirrors.

Aggretsuko products are already available for purchase on Sanrio's website. The items for sale are appropriately office-themed and include a ballpoint pen, a pen case, clear file folders, sticky notes, a spiral-bound notebook and a blanket specifically designed for use with office chairs.

Will you be bringing Aggretsuko with you to the office, or to the after-work rager at the karaoke bar?
