Death, the fan-favorite recurring character from Neil Gaiman's groundbreaking Vertigo Comics series The Sandman, is making her official debut outside of comic books in a brand new animated short.
Among the special features announced for the upcoming DC Animated Original Movie Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is an animated short featuring Death. Voiced by Jamie Chung, the character will guide an artist through his life and prepare him to face his eventual death. Produced and directed by Sam Liu and written by J.M. DeMatteis, the plot description and principal voice cast for the animated short are below:
DC Showcase: Death (Animated Short) – Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Death is produced & directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. The Fatal Five) and written by J.M. DeMatteis (Batman: Bad Blood). In the story, Vincent, an artist with unresolved inner demons, meets a mysterious girl who helps him come to terms with his creative legacy … and eventual death. Leonard Nam (Westworld) provides the voice of Vincent, and Jamie Chung (The Gifted, Big Hero 6) is the voice of Death. The voice cast includes Darin De Paul, Keith Szarabajka and Kari Wahlgren.
Created by Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg in 1989's The Sandman #8, Death is one of the Endless that serves as the older sister to the comic series' protagonist Dream. Usually depicted as a monochrome young woman wearing an Egyptian Ankh pendant, the character would appear throughout the series and serve as one of the personifications of death within the DC Universe.
Wonder Woman: Bloodlines stars Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Jeffrey Donovan as Steve Trevor, Adrienne Moore as Etta Candy, Nia Vardalos as Julia Kapatelis and Cree Summer as Hippolyta, as well as Marie Avgeropoulos as Silver Swan, Kimberly Brooks as Cheetah/Giganta, Michael Dorn as Ferdinand, Ray Chase as Lead Bandit, Mozhan Marno as Dr. Cyber, Courtenay Taylor as Dr. poison and Constance Zimmer as Veronica Cale. The film arrives on Digital HD Oct. 5 and Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD Oct. 22.
