While Netflix's adaptation of the acclaimed comic book series The Sandman is still in pre-production, co-creator Neil Gaiman has confirmed work is already underway for a potential second season.

Gaiman, who serves as a writer and executive producer on the planned television series, revealed he, fellow writer/executive producer David S. Goyer and showrunner Allan Heinberg have completed not just scripting the pilot episode but plotting two seasons worth of story.

"There are three of us, the showrunner Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and me, and we’ve just finished writing the first episode, and plotting and breaking down the first two seasons, so we’ll see what happens next," Gaiman told RadioTimes.

Created by Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for Vertigo Comics in 1989, The Sandman followed Dream of the Endless as he reclaimed his throne following decades of imprisonment on Earth. Netflix ordered an 11-episode first season adapting the comic book series this summer.
