Comic-Con will continue to monitor the situation with local authorities and thanked fans for their support. The message ended with a quote from the late Christopher Reeve: "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

The post did not include an update on Comic-Con's sister convention, WonderCon. Originally scheduled for April 10-12, WonderCon was pushed back indefinitely. Other conventions that have been pushed back or canceled include Emerald City Comic Con, Ace Comic-Con in Boston, and E3.

The San Diego Convention Center, which houses Comic-Con, is currently being used as a emergency center for the city's homeless population in order to halt the spread of COVID-19.  San Diego Tourism Authority CEO Joe Terzi said in a previous statement that Comic-Con has until June to make a final decision regarding the convention.
