'San Andreas' Director Bringing BOOM's 'Malignant Man' to Film with Creator James Wan

20th Century Fox has tapped "San Andreas" helmer Brad Peyton to direct the sci-fi/action comic book movie "Malignant Man."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peyton will replace the character's creator, James Wan ("The Conjuring 2"), who will stay on board the project as producer.

"Malignant Man" is based on the BOOM! Studios comic book series written by Michael Alan Nelson and drawn by Piotr Kowalski, the story follows Alex Gates, a man who discovers his terminal cancer is actually an alien parasite. Bestowed with incredible powers, Gates fights a secret army while peeling back the layers of his own secrets.

Written by Zak Olkewicz ("Lights Out"), BOOM!'s Ross Richie, Stephen Christy and Adam Yoelin are also producing "Malignant Man" along with Wan and Peyton. No release date has been set.
