While most people awaited the new trailer for that other Samuel L. Jackson film, I’ve been looking forward to the U.S. teaser for “Big Game” — primarily because it looks like a lot of fun, but also that it would mean news of a North American release.
And here it is, our longest look yet at Finnish director Jalmari Helander’s upcoming action-adventure. Jackson stars as the president of the United States, whose fate is placed in the hands of a 13-year-old boy (Onni Tommila) after Air Force One is shot down by terrorists over a vast wilderness in Finland. What’s not to like about that?
The film, which also stars Ray Stevenson, Jim Broadbent, Ted Levine, Felicity Huffman and Victor Garber, opens March 25 in Finland and May 8 in the United Kingdom. It will makes its way to the United States May 21 on DirecTV before expanding June 26 to select theaters, digital HD and on demand.
In the rugged countryside of Finland, a young thirteen-year-old (Onni Tommila) embarks on a traditional quest to prove himself by spending 24 hours alone in the wild, armed with only a bow and arrow. After witnessing a spectacular crash, he discovers the escape pod from Air Force One, containing the President of the United States (Samuel L. Jackson). When they realize a group of kidnappers is hot on their trail with the intention of taking the president, this unlikely duo must escape their hunters as they search for the American Special Forces team sent out to find them.
Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Pulp Fiction), Onni Tommila, Ray Stevenson (Divergent, Thor), Victor Garber (Titanic, Argo), Felicity Huffman (“Desperate Housewives”) and Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter series, Gangs of New York) round out director Jalmari Helander’s all-star cast.
