In the ever-growing field of superhero films, fresh takes on the genre are to be expected. Samaritan, an upcoming original film starring Sylvester Stallone, falls into that category.

Stallone recently took to Instagram to post a behind-the-scenes photo of the film, proving it will be quite the intense take on the superhero narrative. Check it out:

The photo features Stallone, looking rather weary, bruised, and battered, with his daughter, Sistine, who came to visit him on set. Stallone mentions in his post that he had to "take care of business," implying that his character ran into some trouble and had to fight his way out.

Samaritan is said to be a dark take on the superhero formula and follows a young boy (Javon Walton) as he searches for a legendary superhero that has gone missing. In addition to starring in the film, Stallone will also act as a producer through his company Balboa Productions. Balboa Productions formed last year and is also set to produce a biopic about the first African American boxing champion, Jack Johnson.

Samaritan is directed by Julius Avery based on a script by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room). Sylvester Stallone will produce and star in the film, alongside actors Javon Walton, Martin Starr, Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco and Moises Arias. The movie is set to be released on Nov. 20, 2020.
