Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi thinks another Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire is possible.

In an interview with Fandango, Raimi, who directed Sony's original three Spider-Man movies starring the actor, was asked about Maguire's return in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home and if there was any chance they'd team back up for a new movie. Raimi replied that, after working on Multiverse of Madness, he realized "anything is possible [...] in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible."

However, Raimi then noted he doesn't "really have a story or a plan," and that he's not sure "if Marvel would be interested in that right now." Raimi also said that, even if he didn't make another Spider-Man film, he'd still like to work with Maguire again at some point.

In No Way Home, Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) gets help from Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to re-hide his identity after it was exposed by Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) at the end of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, the spell goes wrong and ends up pulling in characters from across the various Spider-Man franchises, including Maguire's version of Peter.

Raimi and Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy started with an eponymous film in 2002. The movie proved a massive success for Sony, resulting in a sequel, Spider-Man 2, releasing in 2004. Both of those titles are considered among the best superhero films ever made and were massive successes at the box office. However, Spider-Man 3, which released in 2007 and proved a commercial success, was not as well-received critically. Following that movie, Sony rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

That reboot in a potential fourth Spider-Man movie starring Maguire getting scrapped. Over the years, those involved with the production have confirmed the Spider-Man 4 would have involved Adrian Toomes/Vulture, with Raimi wanting John Malkovich to play the villain. Anne Hathaway was also likely set to play Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in the movie. Following the release of No Way Home, there have been calls for Sony to let Raimi and Maguire make a fourth Spider-Man film.

Directed by Raimi from a script by Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens May 6. Tickets for Multiverse of Madness are on sale now.
