Sam Raimi's Spider-Man shook modern cinema and helped to redefine the superhero film genre. One of the most iconic scenes in the film was the famous kiss scene in which Mary-Jane Watson and a masked Peter Parker share a kiss while the latter is hanging upside down from a web. Raimi recently recalled how he tried to help actor Kirsten Dunst prepare for it.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Raimi recalled giving Dunst a scrapbook filled with famous kiss scenes from across cinema. The director explained, "I just wanted to let her know that this was a very special moment for the movie, and I wanted to communicate it in some way that some moments can be remembered for a long, long time if they’re done right." He continued, "I just wanted to gear her up, to let her know that she’s going to be great in this, and that I wanted some of her Kirsten Dunst magic in that moment."

Overall, he expressed his satisfaction with how the scene turned out, thanks in large part to the performance of Dunst and co-star Tobey Maguire. "I think, once we had that meeting, she turned her head around to it and put on her performance magic, which Tobey did, too. They really made something special," Raimi said.

Although Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy came to an end in 2007, the Maguire's brief return to the role in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home has sparked widespread demand for the continuation of the film saga, with some creating petitions for Spider-Man 4.

Raimi recently touched on this newfound desire to work with the original cast again and went so far as to tease that Multiverse of Madness might make it possible. The director said, "Anything is possible [...] in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible." However, he did make clear that at the current time, there isn't a story or plan for Spider-Man 4." He also added that it's uncertain "if Marvel would be interested in that right now."

Dunst herself previously expressed an openness to reprising the role of Mary-Jane. In an interview, she said, "You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it." Dunst elaborated by saying, "I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit screens on May 6.
