While participating in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) to promote the upcoming film The GrudgeEvil Dead director Sam Raimi was asked about the future of his popular horror franchise.

"Bruce, Rob and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct," Raimi replied. "As for me.... I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie... but I'd really like to do it with Bruce [Campbell]. And he says he's retired the character [of Ash Williams]. I hope not." Raimi was also asked if 2013's Evil Dead remake would receive a sequel, to which he replied, "If Fede would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!"

Bruce Campbell, who starred as Ash in Raimi's original Evil Dead trilogy, announced he was retiring the role after the conclusion of the TV series Ash Vs. The Evil Dead. Fede Alvarez directed and co-wrote 2013's Evil Dead reboot, with Raimi having previously stated he had a story idea for a possible sequel.

The Grudge is written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, with Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Takashige Ichise producing. The film stars Andrea Riseborough, Lin Shaye, Demián Bichir and Junko Bailey, and is currently in theaters.
