It may have been a surprise to find out Samuel L. Jackson would star alongside Brie Larson in Captain Marvel as S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (with two functional eyes, no less), and apparently fans weren't the only ones blindsided by the news, as Jackson states he learned about it online, just like the rest of us.
In the short clip, Jackson not only tells Fandango that he read about the casting online, the actor also jokes that having both eyes will make it easier for him to learn his lines. One insightful tidbit is that on his first day of filming as Nick Fury, Jackson couldn't remember his lines after reading them using both eyes. From then on, he had to start memorizing lines while covering one eye, in order to get into the role of being Nick Fury. Jackson's The Hitman's Bodyguard costar Ryan Reynolds suggests visual memory really does work.
Starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s, and will draw upon elements of Marvel Comics’ Kree/Skrull War.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, the film also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Captain Marvel arrives March 8, 2019.
