Both series have their own charm and are fun to delve into for anime fans of all ages. They also both share similar plot points, such as a conflict of romance between the main characters and the men they wish to be with. Just how do the series stack up against each other, and should you watch Sailor Moon or Tokyo Mew Mew? Without ado, here's a look at which series is the best magical girl story.

10 Sailor Moon: The Senshi

If you watched Sailor Moon, then you likely have a favorite Senshi or three. The girls in this anime all have distinct personalities that stand out from one another. Each girl has to overcome their own difficulties, and during the S arc and onward, the outer scouts are fleshed out and become some of the best characters in the series.

Every Senshi has their own fan base, and even the late introduced Sailor Starlights have garnered tons of attention from fans.

9 Tokyo Mew Mew: More Diverse Outfits

One thing that you will notice about Sailor Moon is that all the outfits are the same with some differences in shoes and colors. Tokyo Mew Mew outfits, on the other hand, are a bit more diverse. This makes each girl be a bit more easily recognizable, and the fact each girl is part anime help adds to their overall design.

Each of the girls even has a different weapon that is easily recognizable.

8 Sailor Moon: Darker Themes

If you are looking for a more adult story, then Sailor Moon wins. While Usagi and friends don't live in a world as twisted as other magical girl series, there are tons of dark undertones. From Saturn's ability to end the world to the fact that Sailor Pluto falls in love with the royal family. There is more going on behind the scenes in this series.

Even the tragic beginning of Usagi's story will draw fans in that love a good tragedy.

7 Tokyo Mew Mew: More Child Friendly

If you are looking for something that is a bit brighter, then go with Tokyo Mew Mew. While the series does have its serious moments; it's not riddled with dark undertones like other series. What you see is pretty much what you get with these girls, and for anime fans tired of brutal shows, it fits perfectly.

The Mew Mew's are fun magical girls that can appeal to fans of all ages.

6 Sailor Moon: Better Soundtrack

When talking about soundtracks, Sailor Moon easily wins. The theme song of the series is one of the most recognizable openings in anime history. Tokyo Mew Mew, on the other hand, doesn't have a very recognizable opening outside of the re-done English opening that was put in the 4-Kids version.

Even the English opening of Sailor Moon are way more popular, though.

5 Tokyo Mew Mew: More Lovable Villians

Sailor Moon is a series that cycles through villains quite fast. You do get some backstory of the villains, but it's a bit hard to get close to anyone's enemy. In Tokyo Mew Mew, you get introduced to three aliens; Quice, Tart, and Pie. These enemies became fan favorites, and several fans even shipped Ichigo with Quiche.

The villains turn out to be good guys by the end and even form a friendship with the Mew Mews.

4 Sailor Moon: Better Anime

Minako And Artemis In Sailor Moon Crystal

In terms of the better anime series, Sailor Moon easily wins. Both Crystal and the original series are far better than the Tokyo Mew Mew anime. While it's no secret that both series suffer from a ton of filler, Sailor Moon's is much more enjoyable while Tokyo Mew Mew's can feel a bit bland.

The dub for Sailor Moon is also much, much better than Tokyo Mew Mew.

3 Tokyo Mew Mew: Enviomrentl tones

Tokyo Mew Mew actually has a really good message behind its plot. Everything is happening in the series because the aliens feel that humans are destroying the Earth. The only way to fight back against the threat is to infuse young girls with DNA from endangered species from around the world.

Conservation is an important topic, and one that fans love being covered.

2 Sailor Moon: Better Dub

As mentioned above, the dub for Sailor Moon is far better. Sailor Moon didn't have its name changed like Tokyo Mew Mew and still kept many of its Japanese elements. The changes to Tokyo Mew Mew are extreme, and the series didn't even finish airing before it was pulled off of TV.

Because of this, the renamed Mew Mew Power is a pretty bad dub.

1 Tokyo Mew Mew: It's Just Fun

If you aren't looking to keep up with a series story, then Tokyo Mew Mew is for you. Many fans describe the story as simple and fun, which is honestly the best way to sum up, the series. There are no evil plots to make you hate the villains, and the magical girls are happy-go-lucky and high spirited.

This is the type of series you want to read or watch when you're in a good mood.
