Part of what makes the main cast of Sailor Moon so memorable and endearing is that they're still flawed, growing teenagers who still manage to be heroes of justice despite their realistic imperfections. One of the most initially flawed would be none other than the titular heroine, Usagi herself. However, these flaws are also downright relatable for a lot of viewers, especially those who were around her age when the series released.
A self-dubbed overemotional crybaby, Usagi has a lot of growing to do before she's truly ready to take on her title as a defender of love and justice. The series manages to do a wonderful job of taking viewers through her journey of personal growth, going from someone who'd rather run away and hide than fight to one who's willing to lay down her life to save the world.
10 Strength: Brimming With Positivity
Despite Usagi's tendency to prefer daydreaming over reality, she also isn't the type to give in once she's set her mind to doing something. She could be told by most everyone else that something she wants to accomplish is impossible, or that they should give up hope, and she'll simply turn to them with a smile and ensure that everything will work out just fine. She might not know that for certain, but she does a wonderful job of motivating both others and herself to aspire to work for the best and brightest outcome possible.
9 Weakness: Tears Over Reason
It's not always a super-negative that Usagi cries more often than the average protagonist. For a young girl who's biggest original worry was how bad she'd be punished for failing her exams, it makes sense that she might shed tears over a failed exam. However, Usagi has a bad habit of breaking out into tears when someone refuses to let her do something -namely Luna- even when it's clearly for her own good. She refuses to listen to reason at times like this, and it isn't becoming of a leader.
8 Strength: Natural People Person
One of Usagi's biggest strengths is her ability to draw people's true personalities out, as well as make them feel comfortable essentially right after she meets them. Usagi's an honest girl who tends to wear her heart on her sleeve, and she also assumes the best out of other people. This is true even when they have negative rumors circulating about them, just like many of the other Sailor Scouts did before meeting Usagi. This strength is part of why she makes such a fantastic leader despite her flaws.
7 Weakness: Prone To Outbursts
Although Usagi is great at making friends, she isn't always the best when it comes to avoiding conflict with them. Because of her overemotional nature, she's also quite prone to having bouts of misdirected anger, and this can come out at her friends at times.
She's often seen fighting with Rei, as well as her childhood friend, Naru. She's temporarily broken up friendships for things as simple as being called out for being clumsy, making her somewhat volatile.
6 Strength: Merciful Defender
Usagi isn't the type to assume that anyone has bad intentions or is truly evil, and for the most part, this is a kindness that she even tries to extend to her enemies. Most of her attacks are simply focused on purifying evil and returning things to their original state, instead of simply destroying it entirely. She even tries to find some semblance of good within extreme threats throughout the series, such as feeling sympathy for Queen Beryl knowing that she was under someone else's control.
5 Weakness: Avoidant Personality
Although this is something that she gets better with as time goes on, early series Usagi has a horrible weakness when it comes to her responsibilities. This includes things like her studies and academics but even extends into her Sailor Guardian duties when she first becomes Sailor Moon. She's often seen reading manga, sleeping, or playing video games while Luna tries to remind her that they're supposed to be searching for the moon princess, which she typically just shrugs off with a whine.
4 Strength: Strong Morals
One of the biggest strengths that Usagi possesses is that despite being so young, she firmly knows what she believes in. She has a strong moral compass, although she'll joke about doing things like cheating on exams. She firmly stands up against anything that doesn't sit well with her. As the self-dubbed guardian of love and justice, she deeply cares about protecting the innocence and dreams of other young girls. No matter how small the misdeed, she won't rest until things are set right, and it's an incredibly endearing part of her character.
3 Weakness: Possessive Side
Although Usagi is a character that wants everyone to live up to their full potential, she can also be a bit possessive and selfish when it comes to one person in particular, Mamoru. Once the two of them begin their relationship, and while they do eventually thankfully talk about this together, Usagi has a bit of a streak of getting overly jealous involving Mamoru, even when it's not called for.
For example, when Usagi was talking with Haruka and Mamoru with Michiru, she got incredibly jealous over this. It comes off as an even worse trait of hers when Haruka was acting much more flirty with Usagi than the other two were, meaning that if anything, it would've been Mamoru to get justifiably upset.
2 Strength: Caring Nature
Even before becoming Sailor Moon, Usagi has a natural drive to want to help others in need. This doesn't only extend to wanting to help people who are in trouble, but she'll also defend animals from being hurt or teased. Viewers see this as early as the first episode when she shoos off a group of boys who were bullying Luna, who she thought was a simple stray cat. Her generosity and kindness know no bounds, and this continues to be showcased throughout the series.
1 Weakness: Selfish Tendencies
No one ever said Usagi was perfect, and while she has a tremendously generous spirit when it comes to helping others, it's a different story if it's something she doesn't want to deal with in her personal life. Although she knows that her studies are important and that she should take them more seriously, she brushes off Luna as well as her mother when they try to remind her of this. She's also ignored active threats simply because she wanted to see her crush at the arcade or go to a shiny sale. Although she does get better with this as she matures over the course of the series.
