One of the most charming aspects of the original Sailor Moon is that many of the girls' casual outfits are based on actual fashion trends and styles around that time. This is something that the series creator did quite purposefully, having an interest in fashion herself and using many of the Couture fashion shows at the time as references for the Sailor Guardians' casual wear.
The fact that the wave of nostalgia for the '90s and early 2000s has been crashing over the general public for some time now. Even with the likes of Sailor Moon Crystal having been released, many fans still hold a soft spot for and are revisiting the classic anime adaptation, being inspired by all of the iconic fashion looks within. And while all of the Sailor Scouts have some unforgettable looks, some manage to score just a bit higher than others.
10 Minako Has The Most Summertime Feeling Outfits, With Flowy Tops And Dresses
Minako is one of the most bubbly members of the Sailor Scouts, who grew up in London. And while she does have a few iconic looks involving her trusty leather jacket, many of her outfits consist of long flowy skirts and sundresses.
She seems to have a preference for more mellow colors such as spring green and salmon pink. Minako's fashion sense matches her personality quite well, as she overall has more of a childish feel to her than most other members due to her silly nature.
9 Setsuna Rocks Classy Layered Outfits But Simply Doesn't Have As Many Ensembles As Others
Setsuna is originally a very isolated and lonely character but is eventually granted the ability to leave and help the other Outer Senshi. As such, she has a refined and somewhat untouchable air about her, and her fashion sense reflects this with dignified suits and cool layered crop tops.
She has a great eye, and this works well with the fact that she dreams of being a designer. The only thing keeping her from ranking higher is simply that she doesn't have as many looks as the other Guardians, who get to show off more of their style.
8 Chibi-Usa's Wardrobe Is Both Cute And Casual, Utilizing A Lot Of Blue
Perhaps to contrast her bright pink hair, Chibi-Usagi is seen wearing a lot of blue and purple, which suit her well. Her overall fashion sense is very reminiscent of her mother Usagi's, where style isn't sacrificed for comfort, and her looks are both cozy and stylish.
Outside of her sailor uniforms, her skirts are all very long, and she prefers to opt for shorts when she wears shorter pants, which fits her age. She also has quite a few outfits which also helps add to her childish nature.
7 Rei Is The Only Character Who Regularly Rocks Fiery Reds
In the anime at least, Rei is the most fiery and confident member of the group, and many of her casual outfits reflect this. Her most famous look is her iconic pink overalls, but the main ensembles she wears day-to-day make much more use of vibrant reds.
This helps her stand out, as aside from a piece or two out of their entire wardrobes, the other Sailor Scouts aren't seen wearing much red. She also makes use of a lot of crop tops, further adding to her image of self-confidence.
6 Michiru's Wardrobe Consists Mostly Of Elegant Dresses And Dress Tops Befitting Of Her Personality
Michiru is noted by Usagi to be the 'ideal princess' type. She's elegant and sophisticated, but she's still passionate enough to hold the capacity for fierce anger if the situation calls for it. Her wardrobe perfectly depicts her classier nature compared to most of the other Sailor Scouts.
She's incredibly fond of dresses, though she can also be seen sporting dressy tops with equally sophisticated skirts. Her favorite colors seem to be a mix of blue and pink with hints of white and occasionally gold thrown in.
5 Makoto Can Rock Both Feminine Dresses And Layered Tomboy Looks With Ease
Out of all of the Sailor Scouts, Makoto is the most tomboyish. That isn't to say that she doesn't also have a soft, feminine side as well- and both of these sides are captured well within her wardrobe.
Dark green is at the core of most of Makoto's outfits, which not only works well for her but also separates her from the other Guardians. Although she looks most comfortable in more masculine clothes like ball caps and bomber jackets, she wears quite a few dresses as well.
4 Haruka Mostly Wears Suits To Complement Her More Masculine Personality Compared To The Others
Haruka is the most masculine member of the Sailor Scouts, and her wardrobe easily represents this. Her go-to casual looks almost all consist of suits and long jackets with matching pants, and she makes use of a lot of more neutral colors in her looks, as well as black and blue.
Haruka's more masculine style of attire can even be seen attracting other members of the group such as Usagi when they first meet. She can often be seen contrasting Michiru in terms of colors, wearing neutral tones and blues while Michiru often opts for dark pinks and soft lavenders.
3 Ami's Slightly More Sophisticated, Blue-Packed Wardrobe Suits Her Personality
Ami's wardrobe has a more mature feeling than many of the other guardians, and this befits her more intelligent and introverted nature. While all of the guardians have a signature color that they tend to lean towards, almost every single one of Ami's looks makes use of her trademark blue-and-white combo.
She's most fond of longer teal dresses, sometimes making use of a long-sleeved jacket on top to add to the classy feel. She also wears quite a lot of stripes, typically pairing a tank top or sleeveless shirt with a pleated mini-skirt of a different shade of blue.
2 Hotaru Has A Darker Aesthetic Than The Other Girls And It Works Well For Her
Although she doesn't have many looks compared to some of the other Guardians who get much more screen time, what's seen of Hotaru's wardrobe is incredibly iconic. She's seen sporting both elegant navy-blue dresses and black sweaters complete with pleated skirts.
Hotaru has the darkest aesthetic out of all of the Sailor Guardians and is the only one regularly seen wearing black. This in turn fits her darker nature compared to the rest of the Senshi, as her powers relate to destruction and she can easily obliterate entire planets if she wills.

It's no surprise to any fan of the '90s anime that Usagi herself ranks at the top of the list. As the titular character, she not only gets more outfits than anyone else in the series, but she's also the go-to when fans want to recreate looks from the show.
While pink is by far her favorite color, she's not afraid to rock blue, black and even green as well. Her fashion sense is much like Chibi-Usa, in that she tends to combine comfort with style with flowy skirts and sweaters.
