Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are definitely one of our favorite pairings. Sailor Moon did a lot to rock the boat with their romance, since Michiru and Haruka are one of the earliest examples of a lesbian couple in anime and manga, and Naoko Taekuchi has been open in her confirmation that the pair are a couple.

The two girls always have us swooning throughout the series, as they’re slightly older than our Inner Senshi, and seem beautiful, mature and powerful. On top of all of that, their interactions with each other are so sweet and romantic, making them feel like a married couple that’s completely in love. Here are our 10 favorite moments between Michiru and Haruka.

10 Michiru Awakens Haruka As A Sailor Scout

Michiru is the only Sailor Scout who didn’t have to be awakened by someone else. Seeing her destiny in a dream, she knew that she was meant to become Sailor Neptune. She also knew that Haruka was meant to be Sailor Uranus. Haruka doesn’t want to face her destiny and blows Michiru off, but Michiru’s gentle persuasion and light flirting eventually get Haruka to come around. The fact that Michiru is responsible for Haruka becoming Sailor Uranus seems like true love at its finest. The two were clearly destined to be together.

9 Michiru Wants To Ride In Haruka’s Car

Haruka’s a cool chick with an awesome ride (and she sometimes even races on motor racing circuits), and she’s constantly flirting with all of the girls at school who want to ride in it. Michiru isn’t exactly the jealous type, but she is equally flirty with Haruka.

She teases Haruka about how many girls want to ride in her car with her and also makes it very clear that she also wants to be one of those girls. In the end, of course, no one rides into the sunset with Haruka except Michiru.

8 Michiru Plays Violin For Haruka

There’s nothing more romantic than having a loved one play music for you. Michiru is a world-class violinist and, while she often performs in recitals, which Haruka obviously attends, she also plays just for Haruka. Haruka listens seriously and attentively any time Michiru plays, showing that she takes Michiru’s musical training very seriously and understands that it’s an important part of her life. Romance doesn’t just have to be the particular scenes of love between two people but can often be seen in the small things that make up a relationship, like being respectful of each other’s passions.

7 They Sit In A Window Together, Playing With Each Other’s Hands

Sometimes, the quietest moments are the most powerful. We often see Michiru and Haruka openly flirting or out in a public place in a couple-y way, but some of the nicest times to see them together, and which feel very intimate and romantic, are when they’re tucked away somewhere, just the two of them.

In this case, they sit together on a wide window sill, holding hands. They’re quiet, letting their fingers just play with each other’s, and aren’t talking very much about anything at all. This time together, just enjoying each other’s presence without a need to fill the silence, is the very height of romance.

6 Haruka Wakes Michiru Up From A Dream

Michiru has a strong psychic ability, which is part of the reason she was able to wake herself up as Sailor Neptune. Sometimes, this means that when she dreams, she’s seeing visions of the future, and she can get caught up in them. When dozing in a lounge chair by a pool, she drifts off into one of these states, getting caught up in one of these vivid dreams. Haruka wakes her, leaning over her, and scolds her for going off to another world and leaving her behind. It’s a gentle, teasing scold, but it’s still clear that Haruka doesn’t want to live in a world where she’s not with Michiru.

5 Michiru, Haruka, and Hotaru Sit Together Like A Family

After Hotaru is reborn as a baby, Haruka and Michiru spend some time with her, taking care of her as if she was their own child. Michiru in particular spends a lot of time mothering Hotaru. One day while sitting all together in a restaurant, as Michiru feeds Hotaru from a bottle, Haruka comments that Michiru looks picturesque with the baby in her lap.

She says casually that she thinks it might be nice for the three of them to live together as a family like this. While it’s impossible as they are, since Michiru and Haruka are still children, it is a romantic indication that Haruka is interested in being with Michiru for the long term.

4 Sailor Neptune Tells Sailor Uranus To Worry Only About Her Own Safety

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are often a team when they go into dangerous situations. They work well together and make a point of having each other’s backs. In a particularly dangerous situation, as they stand before a door not knowing what will be on the other side, Sailor Neptune tells Sailor Uranus that from here on out, she needs to worry about her own safety and to not worry about Neptune, that it’s more important that she safely meets her goal. Uranus, of course, tells her that’s stupid and that they’re going to be together as always. Their care for each other at this moment is subtle and sweet.

What’s more, they have specific talismans that they alone can use, which also work particularly well together. In battle, as in everything, they barely need to speak to understand each other and often know what to do to support each other with a glance and a nod of the head. Knowing their relationship, this ability to work in tandem stands out as romantic in the face of danger.

2 Sailor Neptune Gets Hurt In Trying To Get To Sailor Uranus

It’s not very often that Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus find themselves in a situation where they’re not quite strong enough to fight their way out on their own. In this case, they’ve left the other Scouts behind, fearing their safety and not wanting them to interfere, so they alone face their enemy. When they’re both stuck in a magical trap, Neptune escapes hers to try to reach Uranus, getting wounded in the process. Her desperation to reach Uranus and make sure she’s unharmed, even in the face of her own pain, is the definition of love.

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus go undercover to try to defeat Sailor Galaxia from the inside of her operation. In doing so, they convince the other Sailor Scouts that they’ve betrayed them and that they’re going to have to fight them along with Sailor Galaxia. It’s all a fake-out, of course, and at the last moment, Neptune and Uranus turn on Galaxia. But she’s too powerful and actually ends up defeating them. While they don’t die in a traditional way, they start to fade away. As they do, they reach for each other’s hands, clearly hoping to stay together, even in the face of death.
