No matter what version of the Sailor Moon anime fans are watching - the original Japanese, the Dic dub, the Viz dub, or Sailor Moon Crystal - they will always find plenty of sass, zings, and shady burns from Luna, Sailor Moon's talking black cat/alien that acts as her guardian and advisor.

Despite being an important ally to Sailor Moon, Luna never has a shortage of barbed remarks to make about Usagi, or Serena as she's called in the original English dub. From her obvious frustration over Usagi's selfish, crybaby tendencies to full-on fat-shaming, Luna knows how to cut deep.

10 Out the gate with some Luna shade

Luna has an enormous sweat drop judges Usagi off screen

In episode 2 of the DiC dub, Luna has gotten to know that Usagi and the fact that she doesn't like to study. So, when Usagi sits down with pen and paper and pumps herself up, Luna can't help but react in mild shock, "are you really going to start your homework without anyone telling you to it?"

Usagi yells at her but it turns out that she's not doing her homework, she's trying to write a letter for the mysterious Love Line radio show.

9 Is this Meatball Head For Real?

Luna is frustrated with Usagi, most likely

In episode 7, fans are introduced to Rei, aka Sailor Mars, who is a miko at a shrine. Strange things are happening at the shrine when buses that carry passengers to it disappear.

Usagi and Luna go to investigate and Usagi does not want to get on the bus. Luckily, Luna has given her the transformation pen and Usagi has the brilliant idea of turning herself into... a flight attendant? Luna can't hide her bewilderment and annoyance with Usagi, sarcastically saying, "too bad it's not an airplane."

8 Usagi Isn't Luna's Only Victim

While Usagi is usually the one to frustrate and annoy Luna, the other girls don't have immunity from her shady comments. As shown in the DiC dub of episode 17, Rei is wearing her now infamous pink overalls and Ami comments on them, asking Rei is she had "cut class to go home and change."

Rei gives a lame excuse that she packed her loud clothes with her Luna can't help but retort, "yes....and I'm a purple cockatoo." No one is safe from Luna's savagery.

7 Have A Little Faith, Luna

Luna uses the crescent moon on her forehead to give Usagi her memories back

In the second season of Sailor Moon, Usagi and the other scouts have lost their memories and resuming their lives as regular teenagers. This doesn't last long though and Usagi is determined to resume her life as Sailor Moon: "No more shopping, piggin' out, mall trolling, and dreamin' about guys, huh Luna?"

And even though Luna has been living with Usagi this entire time and seen tremendous growth in her, she can't help but burn Usagi a little bit by saying, "Never stopped you before."

6 Good Thing Mercury And Mars Are Here

It takes a few episodes of Sailor Moon for the other sailor scouts to be found and if you had asked Luna, it couldn't happen fast enough. Luna takes their mission to defeat the Negaverse so seriously that she has no problem speaking her mind on it.

"It's a good thing we've got Ami and Rei on our side. If Usagi was the only sailor scout, the Negaverse would have already sucked up every living thing on this planet," Luna put it bluntly in episode 11.

5 New Password, Who Dis

Luna talks with Mission Control about the last senshi

In episode 28 of Sailor Moon, Luna needs to talk to mission control via the arcade video game/secret computer. She becomes a little frustrated that it's taking so long and immediately inputs a new password: "THE MEATBALL-HEADED SCOUT WILL ALWAYS PLAY WHILE THE CAT'S AWAY".

Not only is Luna ragging on Usagi when she's not even there, but she's also referring to her with the DiC version of the nickname Mamoru gave her that Usagi absolutely hates. Luna just can't stop throwing some shade.

4 Sarcasm Is Luna's First Language

Sailor Moon trapped in a corner and screaming with a funny face

To her credit, Usagi does get the hang of being a sailor warrior, but she also lets her crybaby self come out at the worst times. For example, in episode 5 Sailor Moon has to fight the villain who's infiltrated Ami's cram school and is holding her own.

However, it doesn't last long when it's clear that Usagi doesn't have much of a mind for strategy. It's enough for Luna to break out the deep sarcasm: "now she's trapped in a corner, what a heroine."

3 At Least There's Ami

Sailor Mecury is given a handheld computer by Luna to use

Having Ami join the sailor scouts may have been the best thing that happened to Luna. While Usagi is a pain, Ami is an absolute dear who takes things seriously. She's also wicked smart so in only her second episode, Luna gives her a little handheld computer for her to use.

However, Ami wonders if it should be given to Usagi instead, to which Luna said, "are you kidding, Ami? She's still working on her tiara throw. Do you really think she needs a computer?"

2 Faith No More

Sailor Moon's Luna walks away in utter annoyance, looking back behind her

At least when Usagi as Sailor Moon does everything right, Luna does take note of it, though there's always the tiniest hint of suspicion. When she has to fight to protect her brother and his friend, she speaks with confidence as she goes up against the villain in episode 15.

Luna says, "great show she's putting on... I wonder how long she can keep it up." Usagi immediately runs away as an evil doll flies at her, prompting Luna to say, "great while it lasted."

1 The Truth Hurts, Sailor Moon

Luna looks frazzled and angry, most likely because of Sailor Moon

In episode 17, the Negaverse has invaded an animation studio and Ami confronts Nephrite on her own, where he makes a remark that Sailor Moon is "wimpy."

When Ami is telling Usagi and Luna about it later, Usagi just cannot let go of the comment and goes on and on about it, making Luna say, "it does have a certain ring of truth to it" and then "this from a girl who cries during pillow fights." A hilarious and accurate burn from the savage Luna.
