Sailor Mercury meets Freddie Mercury in a new Sailor Moon cross-over cosplay.

The new combination Sailor Scout and rock legend comes from actor, model and professional cosplayer Alex Drastal. The costume combines Sailor Mercury's trademark light-blue "seifuku" uniform with the late Queen frontman's trademark mustache, physique and general attitude. Drastal showed off the "Sailor Freddie Mercury" costume at this year's Anime Expo, which was held in Los Angeles, California from July 1 – 4.

More of Drastal's cosplay can be found on his Instagram page, where the talented cosplayer usually portrays more traditionally masculine and muscular characters, such as My Hero Academia's All Might and Fullmetal Alchemist's Fuhrer King Bradley, though Drastal does also have an equally impressive gender-bent take on Princess Leia's infamous metal bikini from The Return of the Jedi. Drastal's mash-up costume at Anime Expo has already earned its fair share of fans, as the cosplayer shared fan art of the look on Twitter, which was originally created by artist @MahouKu.

Sailor Moon was originally created by manga artist and writer Naoko Takeuchi in 1991. The series' original anime adaptation debuted in 1992 and is currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of its debut. The franchise is marking the occasion with a number of officially licensed collaborations, including a new line of UNIQLO clothing, and a collection of merchandise that sees the Sailor Guardians teaming up with Sanrio's mascots. A 30th anniversary exhibition will also be held in Japan this year, which will feature new art from Takeuchi, production materials from the series' multiple anime and live-action adaptations and other fun memorabilia from the shojo franchise's long history. The exhibition will even give fans a chance to dine on some exclusive, Sailor Moon-inspired food.

Fans looking for another original take on the character can also check out YAYA Toys' new, unofficial line of Pokémon and Sailor Moon crossover figures, which feature Psyduck cosplaying as all of the inner Senshi. The 13cm figures are now available for preorder, but are quite pricey at $94.99 each.

The regular Sailor Mercury will return in the franchise's next entry, Sailor Moon Cosmos, a duology of new anime movies that will serve as the grand finale to the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot series. The movies will adapt the Stars arc from Takeuchi's original manga and will be directed by Gatchaman Crowds and Kill La Kill episode director Tomoya Takahashi. The first film is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023.
