Image Comics' Saga is returning for a brand-new story arc to kick off 2023.
Image Comics announced Saga #61 will release in January 2023. The latest chapter in Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' critically acclaimed series, Saga #61 will mark the start of a new adventure that includes a number of twists and turns for fans. The publisher teased, "In the upcoming Saga #61, readers are treated to another epic season of emotional adventures and shocking surprises for Hazel and her star-crossed family. It will pick up where the recent Saga, Vol. 10 trade paperback release (collecting Saga #55-60) left off."
What Is Saga About?
Saga first began in March 2012 from Image, Vaughan and Staples. The first issue of the series introduced readers to a vast sci-fi world populated by a host of different creatures. The initial storyline sees two star-crossed lovers named Marko and Alana try to evade capture after Alana gives birth to a girl named Hazel. As the series continues, Hazel grows older while she and her family have no choice but to face a number of new threats, challenges and enemies which appear out of all corners of the galaxy. "We’re back! No spoilers, but Fiona and I are extremely excited about some of the familiar faces returning in this shocking new ‘season’ of Saga," Vaughan said of Saga's return. "Times might be tough for Hazel and her family, but the best is yet to come."
The series previously went on hiatus following Saga #54, which was published in July 2018 and then followed by Saga #55 in early 2022. The tenth volume collection of Saga released on October 5, 2022, and collects issues #55-60 of the series. "I know we were gone for a long time, so Fiona Staples and I are extraordinarily grateful to everyone for welcoming us back with such open arms," Vaughan previously said.
