Safe House writer David Guggenheim is in early talks with Sony Pictures to pen a third installment of Bad Boys, the successful action comedy franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Unsurprisingly, Deadline reports the studio hopes the two actors will reprise their roles as Miami narcotics detectives.

The 1995 directorial debut of Michael Bay, the $19 million Bad Boys grossed $141 million worldwide, to be followed in 2003 by a sequel, which raked in $273 million on a $160 million budget.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is returning for the project, but it's unknown whether Bay is in the mix.
