Safe House director Daniel Espinosa is Fox's top choice to helm its adaptation of the hit Ubisoft video game Assassin's Creed, Twitch reports.

The film has been in the works for a while now, with Michael Fassbender attached to star and produce. Last fall, The Wolverine and Minority Report scribe Scott Frank came in to do a rewrite. Ubisoft's game franchise has been going strong since it debuted in 2007, giving players a variety of opportunities to take control of Desmond Miles' assassin ancestors throughout time.

Assassin's Creed is scheduled for an Aug. 7, 2015 release.
