Venom artist Ryan Stegman shared some old design elements from his run on Scarlet Spider, which featured the anti-hero Spider-Man clone Kaine in the title role.
On Twitter, Stegman shared his original design sheet and some thumbnail sketches for Scarlet Spider #1. "Also found this, the original thumbnail for the scarlet spider number 1 cover!" he wrote. "And lastly (for now) my original scarlet spider design sheet!"
Kaine Parker originally debuted as part of the infamous Spider-Man Clone Saga in Web of Spider-Man #119 (December 1994). He was introduced as an evil clone of Peter Parker who suffered from clone degeneration, which let him to scar criminals with his signature "Mark of Kaine." The original Scarlet Spider, fan-favorite Spider-Clone Ben Reilly, died at the conclusion of the saga, whereas Kaine managed to stick around.
Kaine eventually found redemption and was cured of his degeneration. This prompted him to finally become a hero himself, as the second Scarlet Spider in honor of his late clone "brother."
