Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson have officially signed on to reprise their roles for a sequel to The Hitman's Bodyguard.

The upcoming project, titled The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, will reunite the duo according to Variety. The sequel will feature Jackson's wife in the film, with Salma Hayek reprising her role from the first film. Hayek, who was imprisoned in The Hitman's Bodyguard, has been released and will be joining Jackson on a mission to the Amalfi Coast. This prompts them to ask Reynolds for help once again.

Reynolds portrayed a bodyguard to Jackson's hitman in the first film. Jackson was supposed to testify against a European official, portrayed by Gary Oldman, which painted a target on his back. Reynolds was assigned to make sure he got to court in one piece. The two, however, didn't get along, which led to the film becoming an action comedy. The film garnered $76 million in the U.S. and more than $170 million worldwide.

Along with Reynolds, Jackson and Hayek reprising their roles, Patrick Hughes will return to direct the film. The script will be written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy. Production is slated to begin in March, with a release date unknown at the time. Millennium Media is handling production of the film with executive producers and domestic distribution already attached to the project. Lionsgate is handling the film's North American distribution.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard will begin production in March 2019 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek.
