Ryan Reynolds has revealed what trait made him the perfect choice to voice the popular electric Pokemon in Detective Pikachu.

Reynolds told ComicBook.com he believes part of his casting was due to the eccentric and sarcastic attitude he brings to a lot of his films. "I think they hired me for some of that," Reynolds said. "A whole bunch of us took passes at the script -- I also took a pass at the script. We all got to kind of shape it the way we wanted; I got to make sure the voice sort of worked the way I think it could work for me. Inevitably, I'm at the mercy of the filmmakers."

Reynolds' personality shines through in the trailers and clips already released for Detective Pikachu. In the same interview, he said the filming process involved him being in a motion capture suit while trying out different lines and jokes.

While some fans may become familiar with Reynolds in his role as the titular Detective Pikachu, he is also well-known for his role as Deadpool in both of 20th Century Fox's Deadpool films.

Directed by Rob Letterman from a script written by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, Detective Pikachu stars Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe and the voice of Ryan Reynolds. The film opens in theaters on May 10.
