Actor Ryan Reynolds shared in August that he was forming an organization called The Group Effort Initiative to support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and other members of marginalized communities find entry into the filming industry.

Reynolds recently announced that he selected his first class of trainees to participate in his initiative and they'll be on set with him during the filming of his upcoming sci-fi film for Netflix, The Adam Project. He also shared a photo of his new teammates on Instagram.

"Congrats to the first class of Group Effort Initiative trainees as we start filming, The Adam Project for @netflix. @groupeffortinitiative," Reynolds captioned the photo. All ten trainees will be paid for their work and provided housing during their time training with Reynolds.

The Adam Project is an upcoming, sci-film that will debut on Netflix. The film will be directed by Stranger Things' producer Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Topper. Ryan Reynolds will star as the film's lead, Adam Reed. The film's official synopsis is below, as confirmed by WhatsOnNetflix.com.

Adam Reed, age 13, and still grieving the sudden death of his father a year earlier, walks into his garage one night to find a wounded pilot hiding there. This mysterious pilot turns out to be the older version of himself from the future, where time travel is in its infancy. He has risked everything to come back in time on a secret mission. Together they must embark on an adventure into the past to find their father, set things right, and save the world. The three working together, both young and grown Adam come to terms with the loss of their father and have a chance to heal the wounds that have shaped them. Adding to the challenge of the mission, the two Adams discover they really don’t like each other very much, and if they’re going to save the world, they’re first going to have to figure out how to get along.

When Reynolds first announced this project, he shared that it would be a paid training program for marginalized people of all ages who could train on set with him. He noted that the program would hire 10-20 trainees. Trainees receive a stipend, on-set learning experience and industry connections. Reynolds will pay for the program out of his salary as a way for him to use his privilege to remove barriers to entry in the filming industry. Those interested in the initiative can apply now through the program's Instagram bio.

Reynolds will next appear in the video-game spoof film, Free Guy, which is also directed by Shawn Levy. Written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi.

The film does not have a release date at this time.
