Ryan Reynolds responded this morning to "Deadpool's" surprise Golden Globe nominations with about as much seriousness as you might expect from the star of the action-comedy.

"Thank you, Golden Globes!" he wrote on Twitter. "As we speak, the entire Deadpool team is engaged in a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight." The message was accompanied by a holiday-themed image of the Merc with a Mouth.

Fox's hit movie is nominated for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical, with Reynolds receiving a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

The announcement this morning of the nominations for the 74th Golden Globe Awards followed Sunday's Critics' Choice Awards ceremony, where "Deadpool" won for Best Comedy, and Reynolds took home the trophy for Best Actor in a Comedy.

Directed by Tim Miller from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the R-rated "Deadpool" opened in February to positive reviews, and broke several box-office records on its way to earning more than $782 million worldwide. The highly anticipated sequel, which will feature “John Wick” co-director David Leitch behind the camera, is expected to begin production early next year.
