Skydance Media is partnering with Netflix to co-produce and release Six Underground, a feature film starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and directed by Michael Bay (Transformers).
Six Underground is based on an idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who also worked alongside Reynolds on Deadpool and the just-released sequel, Deadpool 2. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger of Skydance Media will co-produce alongside Bay.
Bay has established himself as an extremely successful filmmaker with his numerous action movies, including the Transformers, Bad Boys and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchises. Meanwhile, Reynolds' success in 2016's Deadpool is being outpaced by the outstanding opening weekend performance of Deadpool 2, with the film breaking the box office record for an R-rated movie.
This will be the first time Skydance Media and Netflix have collaborated on a feature film of this level, and it will also be the first project Reynolds and Bay have done for the streaming service.
Of course, Skydance and Netflix have worked together on television shows such as the widely acclaimed and Emmy-nominated Grace and Frankie. along with the sci-fi series Altered Carbon.
Six Underground will begin production this summer and be released worldwide in 2019 on Netflix.
