Ryan Reynolds' Maximum Effort partnered with the dating site Match.com for a new ad that puts a humorous (if morbid) spin on 2020.

Titled Match Made in Hell, the ad begins with Satan sitting on his throne in Hell 11 months ago. Appearing apathetic to the sounds of torture surrounding him, his interest is suddenly piqued when a ping on his phone notifies him of a new match.

The video then cuts to a park on a rainy day, where Satan is approached by a woman. "Hi... 2-0-2-0?" he asks. "Please -- call me 2020," she replies with a smile.

We're then given a montage set to Taylor Swift's "Love Story" that sees the new couple blissfully enjoying the post-coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic world, including taking in a picnic at an empty football arena, having a socially distanced couples workout at a gym, catching a flick at a shuttered cinema, stealing toilet paper from a public restroom and posing for a selfie in front of a literal dumpster fire. As the music begins to fade out, we see warheads falling from the sky to evoke fireworks while the pair sits on a park bench enjoying the view.

After the Match title card, the ad fittingly replaces "2020" with "2021" in encouraging users of the site to make 2021 their year.
