To help celebrate the 50th birthday of Josh Brolin, Ryan Reynolds has shared an image that transports his Deadpool 2 co-star back to his cinematic debut: the 1985 classic The Goonies.
A parody of Norman Rockwell's Triple Self-Portrait, the birthday tribute depicts Deadpool painting his own picture of Brolin's Cable. However, the Merc With a Brush doesn't capture him as grizzled time traveler but rather as Brandon "Brand" Walsh, the bandana-wearing character played by a 16-year-old Brolin in The Goonies.
"Happy Birthday, Bright Eye," Reynolds wrote on Instagram. "You don’t taste a day over 40."
The flashback fun arrives less than a week after the debut of the first full-length trailer for Deadpool 2, which was jam-packed with action, humor, plot clues and a couple of jabs at Brolin's other big superhero-movie role, that of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
