Ryan Reynolds has been trying for quite some time to get X-Men veteran Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine in Fox's Deadpool franchise, but with little success. As it turns out, though, Reynolds has a brand new idea on how to get Jackman to come back for an X-Force movie or a Deadpool follow-up.

In a Buzzfeed session with the cast of Deadpool 2 from Comic-Con International in San Diego, the actors were asked who they'd love to see join Drew Goddard's ensemble action flick, with choices ranging from Celine Dion to Howard the Duck to Captain Planet. However, Reynolds decided to go meta with his pick, stating, "I'm just going to double down on Hugh Jackman."

It's a very interesting decision, but a clever one, seeing as Jackman has absolutely refused to bear arms (uhh... claws?) as the Wolverine again, emphasizing he's done with the role after the character died in James Mangold's Logan.

Deadpool 2 did technically place Jackman back in the role in a post-credits sequence, but this was using footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so it really doesn't count.

Nonetheless, it would certainly be a laugh-out-loud moment if Jackman did appear as himself, which the Merc with a Mouth already teased via a magazine cutout in his first solo outing back in 2016. In the meantime, though, while X-Force may not have a Wolverine, if Reynolds has his way, it may have an Academy Award-nominated showman in his covert-ops squad or helping him break the Fourth Wall.
