Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman explain how Wolverine can appear in Deadpool 3 if the character died in Logan.

The two actors addressed fans in a new video, where they detail the canon of both films. "Logan takes place in 2029," Reynolds says in the clip. "Totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that." The actor, who will reprise his role as the titular Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3, then begins to detail the movie's plot before Wham's "Wake Me Up Before you Go-Go" plays, drowning out the speech. While the track continues, both Jackman and Reynolds mime what appears to be a violent confrontation between Deadpool and Wolverine.

Reynolds and Jackman surprised fans in September 2022 by announcing that Wolverine will appear in Deadpool 3. The announcement came as a shock to many enthusiasts after Jackman expressed on multiple occasions that Logan would be his final outing as the X-Men's iconic berserker. Alongside the announcement, the duo also unveiled the movie's logo, which sees Wade Wilson's emblem cut into pieces thanks to Wolverine's claws.

Beyond Jackman's return, details on Deadpool 3 remain scarce. Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige previously confirmed that the threequel will be set within the sprawling franchise, reassuring fans that Wade Wilson will retain his R-rating. While many fans were encouraged by the news, Feige further elaborated that Marvel Studios has no plans to make any of its other franchises follow Deadpool's hyper-violent style. "Other than [Deadpool], we haven't encountered a story or a storyline or a character's journey that a PG-13, or the tone, or the ratings we've been using up to this point, has prevented us," Feige said.

Beyond Reynolds and Jackman, Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped on which other stars could return for Deadpool 3. Leslie Uggams is confirmed to appear in the threequel, presumably reprising her role as Blind Al, Wade Wilson's roommate and confidant. Zazie Beetz, who played Domino in Deadpool 2, has also noted that she'd be open to returning to the franchise but she's currently in the dark on whether that's a possibility. "I don't know. We'll see," she said. "I would love to do more Deadpool, but that's me."

Deadpool 3 is slated to debut in 2024.
