Reynolds, who advocated for the film for years, originally played a version of the character in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” When test footage from the potential “Deadpool” film leaked online in 2014, it generated enough interest among fans that Fox set the then-stalled film’s production into motion.
Reynolds is joined in the film by Morena Baccarin (“Homeland,” “Firefly”) as Vanessa “Copycat” Carlysle, T.J. Miller (“Cloverfield,” “Big Hero 6”) as Weasel and Gina Carano (“Haywire”) as Angel Dust. The project started filming this month in Vancouver.

“Deadpool” is scheduled to premiere on February 12, 2016.
