Scott Adkins, who served as Ryan Reynolds' stunt double in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was initially happy to land the role. However, he became disappointed after seeing the way Deadpool/Wade Wilson was eventually portrayed.

Adkins shared his experience on the set of the 2009 film in a recent interview with The Illuminerdi. "When I got the role and went down I was excited," he said.

"I was fully expecting to see the entire Deadpool costume and all that," he added. "When they brought me in and I saw the concept art of the mouth sewn shut and the laser eyes and the claws that pop out… I thought, 'This isn’t going to work.'"

While Adkins didn't appear in any of the subsequent Deadpool films following X-Men Origins, he would play another Marvel Comics character in 2016's Doctor Strange, named Lucian.

The portrayal of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine received major backlash and the character wouldn't make another live-action appearance until 2016's Deadpool, which showed Ryan Reynolds returning but with the Merc With a Mouth's iconic suit and sardonic attitude.

Deadpool was a massive success and spawned a sequel in 2018. Additionally, a third Deadpool film is on the way, which will be released through Marvel Studios instead of 20th Century Fox. Fans speculated that this move might mean that Deadpool will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds. The film has yet to receive a release date.
