When RWBY premiered as a streaming show on Rooster Teeth, Weiss Schnee seemed like she might end up as an adversary instead of one of Ruby’s closest friends. Weiss and Ruby got off on the wrong foot, which caused Weiss and Yang to clash, and later, Weiss and Blake to clash. She was someone who didn’t pull any punches, always ready to tell everyone exactly why she thought they were wrong.

In Volume 7, Weiss still speaks her mind, but she considers her teammates as her family and has learned to think beyond a lesson plan or single sparring session. With her unique fighting style and her willingness to do whatever it takes to save the world, Weiss has become a fan favorite people want to know more about.

10 Why Is Weiss A Fencer?

Weiss Schnee In RWBY DC Comics

One hallmark of Hunters in the RWBY world is that everyone has their own unique weapons. Blake has a whip that doubles as a gun, Yang has her gauntlets, and Ruby has her scythe that also doubles as a gun. Weiss has a rapier that can also convert dust into power.

As a result of using a type of sword to fight, Weiss’ style is modeled after fencing. She uses quick decisive movements so her enemies have a hard time getting in their own hit. According to creator Monty Oum, Weiss has that distinctive fighting style because he studied fencing. In fact, he even modeled Weiss after his own fighting style - he was left-handed, just like she is.

9 What Is Her Fairy Tale Inspiration?

Like her teammates, Weiss has some fairy tale inspiration. Ruby was inspired by the character Red Riding Hood and Yang by Goldilocks. Her initial RWBY trailer, called the “White” trailer, might have given fans a clue to her fairy tale inspiration. Her theme song, after all, was “Mirror, Mirror” and she wore an apple pendant around her neck.

Though some might think she was inspired by the story of The Snow Queen, Weiss has been inspired by Snow White And The Seven Dwarves. Her unhappy home life and the Schnee Dust Company’s “fairest of them all” tagline only reinforce that.

8 How Old Was She When She Learned The Truth About Her Parents?

Weiss In RWBY Volume 4

Weiss never had a particularly happy home life. Attacks on the family company and a need to be the best created a stressful home environment. Her parents didn’t entirely get along, and Weiss learned the truth about their relationship on her tenth birthday.

After her father missed her birthday party, her mother attempted to confront him about it. Weiss witnessed her father informing her mother that he only married her for the prestige of the Schnee family name. It was then that her mother started heavily drinking. Weiss had no illusions about the romance between her parents after that.

7 Does Weiss Have The Same Semblance As Winter?

Weiss And Winter Schnee In RWBY Volume 7 Opening

Weiss’ semblance is officially termed Glyphs. It works by her using symbols to increase her own power. She can use her Glyphs to walk on, increase her speed, pull things through, and even speed up time. When combined with her manipulation of dust, there’s nearly no limit to what she can do with her Glyphs.

According to her sister Winter, however, Weiss’ ability isn't unique. The Schnee family all have the same semblance. They’re the one family, that we know of, that inherit their semblance instead of each member manifesting their own. It’s not clear why her family is special in this regard, but perhaps RWBY will eventually reveal the reason.

6 What Can Weiss Summon?

The Glyphs have another ability that goes along with them, at least, they do in the Schnee family. Members of the Schnee family have the ability to use Glyphs to summon avatars of creatures they’ve defeated in battle.

So far, we know that Weiss can summon the Arma Gigas (which she defeated in her “White” trailer), a Boarbatusk (defeated during a sparring lesson at Beacon Academy), and a Queen Lancer (defeated while trying to escape from Atlas and get back to her friends). What’s not clear is if Weiss has the ability to summon anything - or anyone - else. We don’t know if she can only summon creatures or if this ability would extend to people she killed in battle as well.

5 How Many Battles Has She Won?

Team RWBY featuring Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long

Over the course of the anime, Weiss fought in 21 battles (so far). Some of those have been official battles in sparring matches and tournaments, but others have been battles she’s been caught in during her travels. Only six of her battles have been on her own.

Of her matchups, Weiss won 15. That’s a pretty decent track record, especially since two of her remaining fights weren’t straight up losses. Instead, Weiss was forced to withdraw against battles with Grimm when she was needed in other areas. Weiss only lost battles when she was knocked unconscious - or in training sessions with Winter.

4 What Does Her Name Mean?

Like the other members of Team RWBY, Weiss has a name that gives fans a nod to her signature color. Her original trailer was named “White” as both a nod to her color and a nod to her fairy tale inspiration, and the translation of her name does the same.

With German roots, Weiss is a word for “white” and Schnee is a word for “snow.” The literal translation is just her fairytale inspiration backward.

3 How Did Weiss Get Her Scar?

Longtime fans of the show actually saw Weiss get the injury that left her with a scar over her right eye. Her original RWBY trailer featured Weiss in battle. Over the course of the trailer, she was struck across the left side of her face, leaving her with the scar.

The “creature” that struck Weiss was the Arma Gigas, her first creature she can successfully summon. It was actually an animated suit of armor full of captured Grimm that she was instructed to battle as a test during a training session. Though Weiss won, the incident left an impression on her.

2 What’s Her Favorite Ice Cream?

Weiss Schnee

Voice actress Kara Eberle participated in an “Ask Me Anything” session on Rooster Teeth’s official website to let fans find out more about Weiss. Over the course of the Q&A, one fan wanted to know whether Weiss has a favorite ice cream. She didn’t, but she did have a favorite frozen yogurt.

According to Eberle, Weiss loves blueberry frozen yogurt, which seems appropriate considering her blue and white color scheme.

1 What Is Her Twitter Handle?

Weiss In RWBY Volume 5 Short

Remnant might not exist in the real world, but that doesn’t mean characters from the series don’t have social media accounts in it. Characters like Ruby, Yang, and Weiss all have Twitter accounts.

Weiss’ Twitter handle is RT_WeissSchnee. Unfortunately for fans looking to interact, the account hasn’t been active in a long time. In fact, there are only two posts on the account from 2013.
