Rooster Teeth has revealed the official poster for the anticipated ninth season of its anime-inspired animated series RWBY.Illustrated by Erin Winn, the poster features series protagonists Ruby Rose (Lindsay Jones), Weiss Schnee (Kara Eberle), Blake Belladonna (Arryn Zech) and Yang Xiao Long (Barbara Dunkelman) in the trippy, fairy-tale realm seen in the RWBY Volume 9 trailer. Yang can be seen floating away and reaching out to Blake for help, while Weiss' life has quite literally been turned upside down. In the replies the social media post revealing the poster, Winn confirmed that the poster takes inspiration from the work M.C. Escher, particularly the artist's 1947 woodcut Another World II. "I'm so glad people caught on!" RWBY Volume 9 is slated to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll this coming Saturday, Feb. 18. The season will run for a total of 10 episodes through April 22. The episodes that make up Volume 9 will be available to stream on Rooster Teeth FIRST starting one year after their respective Crunchyroll debuts (e.g. Volume 9, Episode 1 will be added to Rooster Teeth FIRST on Feb. 18, 2024). Volume 9 will eventually be added to Rooster Teeth's free VOD tier, though it hasn't been revealed when.

Fairy Tales Become Reality in RWBY Volume 9

An official synopsis for RWBY Volume 9 reads as follows: "After the harrowing events of Volume 8, our heroines are thrust into an unknown world -- the Ever After! However, once Team RWBY explores this strange and mysterious realm, they quickly discover it might not be quite as unknown as they first assumed. As they journey to find a way back home, they'll have to overcome some of their toughest challenges yet–the struggle of their own identities, and whether or not they're equipped to stop Salem."

While RWBY Volume 9 is the Rooster Teeth series' shortest season yet as far as episode count is concerned, it isn't the franchise's only major release coming this year. Rooster Teeth and DC -- both of which fall under the Warner Bros. umbrella -- have also joined forces for an animated crossover film titled Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One, based on the existing comic book series RWBY/Justice League. Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One will be available on Digital, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray starting Tuesday, April 25 -- three days after RWBY Volume 9 wraps up.
